What Is an Etd Form

(1) Defence Certificate Approval Form: Prepare this form the day after your defence. The Defence Certificate of Approval can be found in the Forms section of our website. Enter the name and email address of each member of your committee and the graduate program director. Each committee member receives a notification that they must sign the form electronically to confirm your successful defense of the thesis, thesis, doctoral thesis or conference after defending yourself. This form, if signed electronically by all committee members and your graduate program director, is your proof that you have passed the defense. Signatories must sign the form after the defense. (2) Electronic Thesis and Thesis Final Content Approval Form (ETD): (NOTE: The ETD Final Content Approval Form replaces the function of the signed paper copy of the previously collected thesis or thesis signature page to document the Committee`s approval of the final content of the ETD.) Each thesis, dissertation, doctoral thesis or conference essay must have the final content approved by each committee member. The FINAL CONTENT APPROVAL FORM of the ETD documents the committee`s approval of the final content of your document. You can access the form here in the Graduate Studies Forms section.

If you have created a final PDF that has been approved by the Associate Director of Programs, you should discuss with your Senior Advisor the online availability option you can choose for your thesis or dissertation before completing this form. The two availability options are (1) Open Access and (2) Embargo. If you and your Senior Advisor have agreed on an online availability option, please access the form on the Graduate School website here. Enter your name and email address, as well as the name and email address of the lead consultant so that you can both sign the form electronically.

As with all other step forms previously submitted and approved by UGS, please submit the final ETD form to your academic unit/college within the respective deadlines to ensure you meet the SKU deadline. Submitting your thesis or electronic dissertation (ETD) to graduate studies involves managing deadlines and many details so that you know in advance what to expect to plan the process and navigate more easily. Please download this guide and print it for reference later. Here are the basics: I. FORMATTING CHECKS Your final PDF must be formatted according to the formatting requirements of the graduate school. These formatting requirements can be downloaded and printed here. You can email your draft to the Associate Director of Programs for editing review at grad.dissertation@miami.edu, in PDF format (preferred), or in up to four separate Word files. If the file is too large to email, send the Associate Director of Programs a link to the document in Dropbox or another cloud storage provider. The Associate Director of Programs will review the draft and email you feedback on the formatting revisions. Preliminary pre-defence reviews are optional. II.
